About.

I tend to make a story of things.

A dinner alone. A sentence in a book. A perfume that brings an entire city back. Something someone said in passing that I am, apparently, still thinking about.

This website gives those preoccupations an address. Through essays, travel, and books, I explore what catches my eye and what holds my attention—two occasionally different things. It’s somewhere to follow an observation, put an experience into words, and give a recommendation the story it deserves.

Consider it a collection of personal effects, in every sense of the phrase.

Which Brings Me to.

My answer to “Where are you from?” usually requires a little context.

I’m Farzeen. Born in India, raised across Kuwait, Oman, and Dubai, and educated in the British curriculum, I grew up with several versions of ordinary. My parents believed in a good education—and gave the world a considerable role in mine. At thirteen, I traveled to the United States on my own. At fifteen, I first left home. At seventeen, I moved to America. A decade after that first visit, here I am, with rather more to unpack.

Along the way, I lived, studied, and worked in Florence, traded an intended future in medicine for Interior Architecture, and developed a habit of finding something interesting wherever I happened to be. Today, I’m an Interior Designer, a reader who occasionally loses all sense of proportion, and a writer who likes to give passing thoughts a permanent address.

Moving so often has made me attentive to the particulars: how people welcome you, what they gather around, what feels familiar in an unfamiliar place. Those details have shaped my taste, my work, and much of what you’ll read here. My parents gave me the freedom to go and see. I’m still making good use of it.
